Review: the JW Marriott Gold Coast resort & spa

Make the most of your Gold Coast getaway at the JW Marriott by enjoying their excellent dining offerings and dedicated wellness experiences. Living the good life is all about balance, right?

Premium onsite facilities include the tropical saltwater lagoon pool complete with snorkeling section (yes, there a plenty of fish), a 24 hour gym and a mix of 5 restaurants and bars. There’s plenty of fun water activities & tours available at their private marina too. Think sunset kayak sessions, thrilling jetski rides and parasailing adventures.

Note: the resort is onlyn a short walk from Surfers Paradise’s city centre and the Gold Coast’s famous white-sand beaches. Travel tip: request an oceanview room for a spectacular vista of the seemingly endless sea and keep you’re eyes peeled come whale watching season (May – October).

Keen on a spot of high-end shopping? Pacific Fair is where you’ll find popular luxury labels such as Gucci, Hermes and Louis Vuitton. And, yes the hotel valet will help you lighten your glamorous haul once you’ve returned to the JW Marriott aka you’re home away from home.

Spa by JW

Knowing your time is valuable, Spa by JW offers express spa treatments as a simple indulgence. Want to linger longer? Me too! Well, there’s a whole range of deluxe treatments that can be tailored to your exact needs and focused on delivering four distinctive benefits — Calm, Indulge, Invigorate and Renew. Whether you’re fatigued from a long journey or simply desire a well-deserved retreat, Spa by JW provides memorable experiences that are as effortless as they are rewarding.

Travel hint: the spa lounge is the perfect place to gather with a group (or solo) and take a moment to rest, reset and recharge. I arrived an hour before my appointment to soak up the serenity in the jacuzzi and peruse the ample beauty products on offer.

Bonus points to the lovely spa manager who thoughtfully shared her product expertise with me and recommended a few new items for me to sample. Starting with a take-home hair treatment to nourish and protect my presently ‘beached as’ tresses. The Spa By JW confidently claims to be a sanctuary dedicated to fostering mental and physical balance and by that ethos they have succeeded!

Resort Dining

There’s no need to leave the resort if your appetite is prepped to be sated and visiting an award-winning seafood buffet sounds very inviting. Citrique at the JW Marriott Resort consistently wows the crowds with its sea-to-plate buffet. Land lovers aren’t left out either and always enjoy roast meats, wood-fired pizzas and Asian-influenced cuisine.

As they say, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Fuel up at Citrique and tuck into tropical fruits, fresh pastries and traditional hot breakfast favourites or set a leisurely pace at the gourmet buffet and ease into a gorgeous Queensland day.

Fancy something more exotic, obsessed with fresh Japanese cuisine? Then Misono is the place to be. Located on level 3, embrace the energy of Japanese food artistry. The restaurant features a vibrant, communal dining teppanyaki experience (we love watching the highly skilled teppan chef’s intricate knife work and interactive theatrics), a live sushi bar and a very cool whisky bar. Kanpai!

Sleep

A good night’s rest is paramount to to an indulgent getaway and at this fabulous hotel you’re looking at sweet dreams aplenty. Designed for the needs of multi-generational travellers, guests will enjoy accommodation offerings by way of the spacious ocean or mountain-view guestrooms and a selection of ultra-glam executive suites.

Expect a plush king or double bed configuration (at your request), a spacious work area, flat-screen TV, state-of-the-art electronics and a bathroom with high-end amenities.

When To Go

I prefer to travel outside of the school holidays (this hotel is very popular with young families) and opt for a shoulder season stay. Queensland has delightful sunny weather all year round but to be honest, May is my favourite month to visit. The Autumn temperature is perfect, there’s a gentle offshore breeze and the city breathes a more relaxed atmosphere for all to enjoy.
